Where has the year gone?

Is anyone else shocked at how fast this year has gone by? Seems like we have just blinked and December is upon us. For those of us north of the equator, our days are getting shorter as we approach the longest night of the year. Since our earliest times, this time of year has caused distress in cultures all over the world. The approach of The Longest Night (winter solstice) has been universally connected to false gods who are believed to either have the power to destroy the world or overcome the darkness. This is where the Yule log tradition originates. Humanity has been held in bondage to the entities who claim to have power and authority over the sun, darkness and light for millennia. BUT the creator, YHWH, is the only one who can claim to have power and authority over the course of the sun. As creator of light and darkness, He alone can save us from the darkness that threatens to destroy the world.

He gave us a beautiful tradition in His word to remind us of the coming Light of the World. It's called Hanukah, which is known as the Feast of Dedication, but also, The Festival of Lights. This festival dates back to the Greek rule over Israel when Israel was almost totally overwhelmed by the darkness of Greek gods and traditions. EVERYTHING related to worship and obedience to Yah had been outlawed and many, many faithful Israelites were horrifically murdered for their obedience to God. BUT the God of Israel heard their cry and raised up mighty men who would lead a rebellion that freed them Greece: an impossible victory. Over the generations that followed, a celebration of the candelabra (menorah) lit in service to Yah in the restored temple would become a cultural reminder of the miracle Yah performed in rescuing Israel from the darkness and destruction of Greek rule. Yeshua himself celebrated this being in the temple for this festival in John 10. Of course, that can also be seen as a metaphor for how Yeshua was born to be the Light of the World that the darkness cannot overcome and give us freedom from the powers and principalities that threaten humanity’s existence today.

In fact, many people believe that Yeshua was conceived during Hanukah, which would mean that he was born during the time of the fall holy days as most scholars believe he was, in no way, born in December. Science has now revealed that the moment of conception creates a spark of light in the womb. Wouldn’t it be JUST LIKE Yah to ignite that spark in Mary on the darkest day of the year when the entire world is pleading with their gods to restore the physical light?
